Getting ready for the fair: Fairgrounds volunteer work day draws hundreds

The Nevada County Fairgrounds recently announced that the 2021 fair will occur, prompting hundreds to volunteer during last weekend’s volunteer work day. Members of the community rolled up their sleeves to make the grounds presentable by raking pine needles, painting benches, and preparing the gold path for the iconic display of marigolds.

More than 200 members of the community showed up Saturday for a volunteer work day at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, helping get the grounds ready for the 2021 fair.
Last month it was announced that the fair will run from Aug. 11 to 15, prompting members of the community to rally together to help clean up mountains of pine needles, paint benches, weed flower beds, and other tasks. ....

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra partners with Tallest Tower for 'Symphony in the Sky' via Bastion Effect

To celebrate the official completion of Australia 108, the tallest residential building in the Southern Hemisphere, musicians of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) came together to perform a ‘Symphony in the Sky’ for the landmark on Sunday, 21 March. This strategic partnership was the brainchild of integrated communications agency, Bastion Effect.

The 30-minute performance was the highest concert ever performed by the acclaimed orchestra in its 114-year history and saw musicians play from a selection of spaces at Australia 108’s exclusive Star Club on levels 70 and 71 – 210 metres above the ground.
The performance was broadcast free from the MSO’s YouTube channel and gave architecture and design fans – along with music lovers – a look inside Australia 108’s prestigious private Star Club, home to some of the most luxurious amenity experiences in the world. ....

Lorraine's Lowdown: It's a fair cleanup

Show Our Fairgrounds Some Love. After a year without events and less staff on board due to pandemic-related layoffs, California’s Most Beautiful Fairgrounds needs some spring cleaning. An enthusiastic group of NevCo Fair lovers is planning a May 1 work day. “Excitement is over the top for this project,” says committee member Debbie Prisk Olsen. “The scope of work is daunting, but we can do this!” Individuals, families, service organizations, nonprofits, high school students and everyone willing to roll up their sleeves are invited to trim flowers and bushes, spread compost, prep lawns for mowing, pressure wash and paint structures, whack weeds, rake pine needles, and pick up pine cones, sticks and trash (monetary donations also accepted). The plan is to organize two four-hour shifts: 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m. Volunteers are asked to sign up by completing a form at http://www.NevadaCountyFair.com ....
