Hamer Boxing Club was one of the successful applicants to the Voluntary and Community Grant Scheme in 2020
Local groups from the voluntary, not for profit and charitable sector are now able to apply for grant funding.
The Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership is accepting applications to the Voluntary and Community Grant Scheme which provides funding to applicants whose work contributes towards the partnership’s priorities.
Applications need to demonstrate that they will support communities to be:
Free from the harm of domestic abuse and violence
Free from the harm of organised crime and exploitation ....

Hate Crime Awareness Week
The borough of Rochdale has come together to take a stand against hate crime as part of Greater Manchester’s hate crime awareness week, which runs from 1 to 7 February.
Rochdale Borough Council alongside Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and other community groups have held awareness raising events across the borough to challenge perceptions, encourage reporting and promote tolerance.
Hate crimes are crimes committed against someone because of their race, religion, disability, trans identity or sexual orientation. These are the personal characters currently identified by law, however in Greater Manchester hate crimes against alternative sub-culture are also recorded. ....

Councillor Billy Sheerin was sworn in as the Mayor of Rochdale at the annual Mayor Making Ceremony on Wednesday 22 May 2019.
Usually, the mayoral year comes to an end the following May, but due to the coronavirus crisis which resulted in remaining engagements being cancelled and his mayoral year subsequently cut short, Councillor Sheerin was offered the chance to stay on as Mayor of Rochdale for another year (May 2020 – May 2021).
This column focuses on some of his highlights from the past month. ....

Rochdale Multi-Faith Partnership release short film to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated on 27 January every year
Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 27 January each year and Rochdale borough holds an annual commemoration, hosted in a different part of the borough each year in rotation – Heywood, Middleton, Littleborough and Rochdale.
This year, the commemoration was due to take place in Rochdale, however due to Covid-19 it was not possible to hold a public event.
As an alternative, the Borough of Rochdale Multi-Faith Partnership, supported by Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership, has produced a digital film to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides past and present. It also aims to raise awareness that the threat and potential for genocide taking place somewhere in the world is an ever-present reality.  ....
