£3million flats plan for Nairn was 'railroaded', says residents group

Highland Council is being accused of railroading through a £3 million project to build 12 flats and a new office for the Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) using £640,000 of government funding.
The Nairn Residents Concern Group (NRCG) has been refused an audit review by Highland Council of the paper trail leading to the decision for the three-storey development in King Street.
They raised the matter with Audit Scotland, which has passed on the group’s concerns to the external auditor for Highland Council. ....

A former nursing home in Inverness is set to be converted into an eight-bedroom private house.
Highland councillors voted to approve the plans for the former Fairfield Nursing Home although local residents have voiced concerns it could become a house of multiple occupancy (HMO).
The 32-bedroom property in Fairfield Road was closed in 2018 following a damning report by inspectors.
It is the third time in recent months that a planning application for its future use has come before the council. ....

AN explosive meeting of Highland Council’s audit and scrutiny committee saw a number of councillors accuse the local authority of “intimidation and harassment” of elected members.
The committee was due to consider an audit into the appointment of Paul Senior as an education consultant which cost the council more than £70,000 for three months’ work – but a number of councillors slammed the audit report for blaming members’ behaviour for Mr Senior’s early departure from the council. ....
