Michigan Brain Injury Provider Council, which represents health care professionals and facilities that care for people with severe brain injuries, today called out auto insurance industry executives for turning their backs on accident victims by abruptly canceling a brokered meeting on
House Bill 4486 and
Senate Bill 314.
Sen. Jim Runestad working with Senate colleagues attempted to arrange a meeting between representatives of the auto insurance industry and post-acute care providers. The negotiations for a face-to-face meeting were held over the course of the week of May 10; unfortunately, the insurance industry refused such a meeting with no explanation provided. ....

SHELBY TOWNSHIP Local lawmakers and talent development officials recently celebrated a local man’s successful recovery from addiction to returning to the workforce.
They gathered virtually on Wednesday, March 31, for the Michigan Works! Association Impact Awards to recognize people including Macomb County resident Ray Lane and Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works!
After losing his job due to addiction, Lane spent time in a residential treatment center. It was there that he found a peer coach who helped him with an individual recovery plan. He said he was honored by the recognition. ....

Michigan Senate to update sexual harassment policy amid reckoning in Lansing


The policy is expected to go into effect Monday.
The Senate’s new policy extends protections to visitors, such as constituents, lobbyists, vendors, contractors, reporters and anyone that is on or within Senate property.
That makes senators or staffers subject to disciplinary action if visitors are harassed and file complaints with the Senate Business Office.
“It may not completely solve everything, but I think the goal is to obviously make improvements and to get us further towards a goal,” Chang said. “Ultimately, you can’t completely change a culture from policy, but we hope that it ll be much improved.”
The new policy also spells out the process to report discrimination or sexual harassment. The Senate Business Office has created a flowchart to explain all the steps, which includes a complaint investigation by the director of the office.  ....

U-M regents weigh censure vote on Ron Weiser over 'witch' comments


Though symbolic, a vote to censure is likely the strongest action the body can take against an individual regent, since its members are elected. The Detroit Free Press first reported on the possibility of a censure vote. Weiser did not return a request for comment.

The board’s move comes a week after Weiser was recorded calling Gov.
