The city of San Francisco is reviving a long-simmering feud with the state over water, filing a lawsuit Friday that charges state regulators with trying to take away the city’s coveted Sierra Nevada water supplies.
The suit claims the state water board is demanding the city forfeit too much water from the Tuolumne River as part of a licensing deal for two dams in the faraway basin. State regulators have said the water is needed to maintain proper river flows and support struggling salmon, but city officials contend the demands would leave Bay Area residents and businesses vulnerable to water shortages. ....

San Francisco Sues State to Retain Access to Vital Water Supply


The city of San Francisco doesn’t want to part with its share of the valuable Sierra Nevada water supply but the state may insist. The two are back at it again in court and it’s up to a judge to decide who gets the goods.

(CN) The city of San Francisco claims state regulators are singling out the city during a drought and trying to deprive residents of a much-needed source of drinking water, namely the Sierra-fed Tuolumne River.
With another drought on the horizon, city officials say the state is being unfair by demanding more water than it needs and more than the city has to spare. The lawsuit stems from a licensing deal for two dams controlled by a pair of nearby water districts which set the restrictions the city now seeks to maneuver around. ....

Sonora, CA The Sonora Area Foundation is thanking two of its board members for their service to the community.
Retired Judge Bill Polley and retired healthcare manager Tracy Russell are stepping down from the board of directors.
Polley has lived and worked in Tuolumne County since 1970 and raised four children with his wife Carol. They now have nine grandchildren. Early on, Polley was a personal attorney and advisor for local philanthropist Irving J. Symons, the founder of the Sonora Area Foundation.
Polley was later appointed Superior Court Judge by Governor George Deukmejian in 1989. After retirement, he became a member of the Irving J. Symons Foundation Board, and later the Sonora Area Foundation Board. ....

Warrant Issued For Sonora Man Accused Of Stealing From Elderly Vet

Sonora, CA – A warrant has been issued for a Sonora man charged with 21 felony counts after allegedly stealing roughly $30,000 from his disabled military veteran uncle.
On Friday, 54-year-old Allan Thomas Rockwell failed to show up for his arraignment in Tuolumne County Superior Court, forcing a judge to issue an arrest warrant. Rockwell is charged with 21 felonies, 12 for financial theft from an elder, and 9 for identity theft.
Much of the money allegedly taken went to the non-profit “Pilots of Wishes” veteran’s charity, according to Tuolumne County Acting District Attorney Eric Hovatter, who did not have any other information on the charity or whether it was legit but says an investigation is underway. “We’re still looking ....
