Increased Security Approved for Laguna Beach City Buildings
Laguna Beach city council has unanimously approved funding for increased security systems to be installed at city hall, its police department, and the city’s administrative building.
The contract was awarded April 6 to Am-Tech Security and Network Solutions Inc. at a total cost of about $185,000.
The plan includes the installation of 23 cameras to be mounted both inside and outside of the buildings, and 37 key cards that would be used by city staff to access exterior doors, as well as some interior department area doors.
The security recommendations were made after a joint evaluation conducted by the Laguna Beach Police Department and the Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center (OCIAC). ....

'Lunar Tides' brings new wave of artistic beauty to Heisler Park

Heisler Park in Laguna Beach now has a stunning new piece of public art, compliments of a familiar source.
Laguna Beach artists Scott and Naomi Schoenherr have produced “Lunar Tides,” which now occupies the stage floor of the amphitheater in the park.
The work is full of detail that depicts some of the themes prominent in the couple’s projects, including natural cycles and nature’s creatures.
“I think we put a lot of details in that piece, so we hope that piece will provoke curiosity through all the details,” Naomi said. “Every time, probably, people come and visit, they see different things [and] discover stuff.” ....

Laguna Beach Restaurants and Retailers Receive $575,000 Through LB Cares Grant Assistance Program

In December, the Laguna Beach City Council approved the $850,000 Grant Program, LB CARES, from City reserves to assist restaurants, bars and retail businesses experiencing impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant program provided direct financial assistance to these businesses and organizations by offering a $5,000 grant per qualifying restaurant or bar and $2,000-$3,000 grant per qualifying retailer, on a first-come, first-served, basis.
On Jan. 8, 75 Laguna Beach restaurants and 82 Laguna Beach retailers received assistance checks totaling $575,000 from the City of Laguna Beach through the program.
“Our City staff is to be congratulated for implementing this program in record time and getting checks to our local restaurants and businesses in less than three weeks’ time from the Council’s approval,” said Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen. “To distribute nearly $600,000 to over 150 local businesses provides a much-need ....

Laguna Covid-19 Matching Grant Relief Fund for Laguna Beach Residents and Employees Launches Today

To provide direct financial assistance to individuals and employees living or working in Laguna Beach that have been impacted by COVID-19, the Laguna Beach City Council set aside a $300,000 matching grant for Phase 2 of the Laguna Covid-19 Relief Fund as part of the City’s $1.4 million in economic assistance for restaurants, bars, retail & community.
Starting Jan.11, the Laguna Covid-19 Relief Fund, administered by the Laguna Beach Community Foundation (LBCF), will provide Emergency Assistance Mini-Grants up to a
maximum of $1,000 per household to individuals living or working in Laguna Beach with emphasis on those in the restaurant, hospitality, retail, and personal services industries.
