BRUSSELS-Most European Union states on Thursday agreed to share part of their upcoming COVID-19 vaccine deliveries with the five EU countries that need them the most.
After days of negotiations, EU ambassadors on Thursday agreed to change a distribution arrangement for 10 million doses of a vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech due to be delivered in the second quarter of this year, so that the needier countries will receive more. ....

Sinhala & Tamil New Year: Health guidelines to be issued today

The Ministry of Health stated that health guidelines issued in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year will be released today (02).
A special discussion was also held in this regard and the proposals made there will be further discussed.
The Health Promotion Bureau stated that this year s New Year festivities will be subject to restrictions.
Chief Epidemiologist at the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera stated that test to detect COVID-19 will be carried out targetting those employed in the trade zones and economic development zones leaving Colombo during the New Year season.
Meanwhile, a discussion was held yesterday between the Health Minister and the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka on the implementation of several new health development projects. ....

Another group of Sri Lankans who were harassed in Oman, returns to SL

Another group of 248 Sri Lankans who went to Oman for employment and were subjected to various forms of harassment have returned to the island.
According to the Hiru News correspondent at the airport, the group arrived last night on two SriLankan Airlines flights from Muscat, Oman.
The majority of the returnees were domestic workers.
The group was repatriated under the programme to bring back Sri Lankans who are overseas, unable to return to the country.
They were directed to quarantine centres operated by Sri Lanka Army following the arrival.

25 Sri Lankans arrested in India for drug trafficking

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that 25 Sri Lankans were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) for transporting narocotics on two raids which were conducted near the island of Minicoy.
During the first raid which was carried out on 05 March, 06 Sri Lankan nationals were arrested when the ICG inspected a fishing vessel that set sail from Chilaw.
It was also revealed that more than 200 kilograms of heroin were dumped in the sea during the raid.
