Donald “Donnie” Young, 72, of Montezuma passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Donald Wesley Young was born on October 15, 1948, in Oskaloosa, IA, to Dorothy Lowe and Milton Young.
Donnie graduated from Montezuma High School in 1966. He attended Kirkwood college to study computer science for one year before being drafted into the army. He served in Germany for two years.
Donnie married the love of his life Cherie on March 27, 1971, at the First Baptist Church in Oskaloosa, IA. They lived in Barnes City until 2004 when they moved to Montezuma, where they had plenty of room for horses and fun to be had. Together they had three children: Justin, Preston (& Connie), and Austin (& Taren) of Montezuma. ....

The flag flying over the bandstand during April is in honor of Carlos Ryther.
Carlos enlisted in the Marines on January 4, 1952, at St. Louis, Missouri. He did his basic training at Camp Pendleton, California. He served two years of active duty and then eight years in the reserves. Following his discharge, Carlos moved back to Avalon, farmed with his father, and then took a job as a salesperson for Lambert Glove Company in Chillicothe. Later, in 1954, his position with Lamberts took him to Oskaloosa. While living there, he changed jobs and began driving a truck for Oskaloosa Bottling Company. This was the first of many truck-driving jobs that Carlos held over the years. He also drove for DRS, Hy-Vee, and Foodliner. Carlos retired from Foodliner in 2009. ....

Funeral Services for Donna Crile, age 69 of Oskaloosa, will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery in Mahaska County. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. The service will be available to view on the Langkamp Funeral Chapel’s YouTube channel Tuesday afternoon for those unable to attend the ceremony. David Hansen, 81, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021, at his home in Oskaloosa. David Lee Hansen, son of Oliver and Rose (Czako) Hansen, was born April 12, 1939, in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
David was a 1957 graduate of Iowa Falls High School and then furthered his education at Iowa State University for two years.
David enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, and worked maintaining and repairing tanks for 4 ½ years of the 6 ½ years he served. The remaining time he served in Kentucky.
While in Germany, he met his wife, Annemarie Birkner; they married on December 23, 1963, in Röthenbach, Germany. After his discharge, the couple returned to Iowa Falls. ....

Virginia Paulson, 76, of University Park, died February 17, 2021, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Virginia was born November 22, 1944, at Mahaska Hospital, the daughter of Orville and Alice (Wilson) Malloy.
The family lived in Kirkville for a time and then moved to Harvey, where she grew up and got into a lot of mischief with her sister Nancy! The family later moved to Cincinnati, Iowa, where she met Ron Hudson.
Virginia and Ron married in 1961 and had two children, Veronica and Larry. Virginia and Ron later divorced, and Virginia and the kids moved to Oskaloosa to be near her family. ....
