LOUDONVILLE Memories of the past were dredged out during the dedication of the new suspension footbridge across the Clear Fork in Mohican State Park on Wednesday morning.
Lee Fromme, who represented the Loudonville Fire Department in the program, produced a black and white photo of an attractive young couple taken in the 1940s on the iron suspension bridge which traversed the river then at nearly the same point as the recently completed new bridge.
“In the picture are my wife Dianne’s parents, Carl and Thelma Stitzlein, we think was taken in the early 1940s when they were dating,” Fromme said.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - Fallen Watertown firefighter Peyton Morse would have turned 22 on May 3rd. In his memory, fellow firefighters have dubbed the day Morse Strong Day.
The Shaker Road Loudonville Fire Department, where Morse volunteered during college, is asking the public to celebrate the young firefighter’s life.
They want to see pictures, people honoring Morse in some way, posted to social media with the hashtag #MorseStrong.
Morse died in March after suffering a medical emergency at a training center in Montour Falls.
WATERTOWN â Peyton L.S. Morse was going to celebrate four years of personal and academic growth when he received his diploma from Siena College later this month.
Instead, family members, close friends and members of the Watertown and Shaker Road-Loudonville fire departments will come together Saturday on the campus, near Albany, for a special commencement ceremony for the fallen city firefighter.
The young firefighter will receive his diploma posthumously after he suffered a medical emergency while training at the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls, near Watkins Glen, on March 3. He died March 12.
âThe event is especially for Peyton and is not a part of regular commencement,â city Fire Chief Matthew Timerman said Friday.
