At dusk on a recent Saturday, a dozen cars cruised into the parking lot at L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Hollywood, reversing into spots under strings of white lights. Within 30 seconds, several masked young men had approached the cars, taking pizza orders from a distance. As the sky darkened, an indie romantic comedy called “Better Days” started to play on a screen erected at the edge of the parking lot. ....

San Diego Superior Court Judge Liberates Restaurants With Ruling on Two Strip Clubs

The Dominoes are falling…
Another loss for Newsom as San Diego restaurants can now open. Given every opportunity, the State has provided the Court with no evidence to justify the closures, the Judge ruled.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil issued an injunction restricting the enforcement of a cease-and-desist order on strip clubs and “San Diego County businesses
with restaurant service.”
While this ruling is based around two strip clubs, because the clubs offered restaurant services, the Judge’s order looped restaurants into the parameters of the ruling.
“Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil, who previously granted a similar temporary restraining order for Cheetahs Gentlemen’s Club and Pacers Showgirls International, wrote in his nine-page ruling that the state of California and San Diego County have not provided evidence tying the spread of COVID-19 or lack of intensive care unit bed capacity to live adult entertainment or businesses with restau ....

Column: The lack of help for our restaurants is a national disgrace

Sandra Cordero, chef and owner of Gasolina Cafe in Woodland Hills, has heard the word “pivot” a lot this year.
“I’ll slap someone in the face if I hear that one more time,” she said, and laughed. She pivoted from a fully open restaurant to takeout and delivery, then veered to outdoor dining and has now pirouetted back to takeout again. She’s had to pivot while furloughing, rehiring and refurloughing many of her 30 employees, some of whom depend on the health insurance she’s started providing.
She’s tired of pivoting.
With the implementation of regional stay-at-home orders that prohibit outdoor dining in a majority of California counties, Cordero and other local restaurant owners feel that the last thin, frayed lifeline they were counting on to get them through the winter has been yanked from their hands. And with hope fading for restaurant-specific stimulus on a national level, many are at a breaking point. ....
