100th birthday for war veteran Paddy Mooney marked in Dunabbey House, Dungarvan

There was a special day for one of Dunabbey House’s residents this week, as Paddy Mooney celebrated his 100th birthday.
Paddy, a native of Dunabrattin, Annestown, Co. Waterford and an RAF veteran of World War 2, had the occasion marked for him in a day of socially distanced festivities at the residential nursing unit in Dungarvan.
The highlights of the day were an honorary flypast by the Coastguard helicopter based at Waterford Airport and a visit from Airline Captain David Moen to present Paddy with his letter of congratulations and bounty cheque from the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins. ....

Mosquito T3, Lancaster and Tempest land at Aston Down Airfield


A photograph of a World War Two fighter-plane making it’s final landing at Aston Down Airfield, near Minchinhampton, have been uncovered by a Stroud photographer.
Tammy Lynn, from Stroud, discovered a collection of the late photographer Peter Coleman’s work, including this photo of a Mosquito T3 landing in 1946.
Lancaster Bombers and Hawk Tempests can be seen on the ground beneath the Mosquito at the airfield, which was used by the Royal Air Force from the First World War until 1967 before the Cotswold Gliding Club moved from Tetbury.
Built by the De Havilland Aircraft Company for the RAF, the Mosquito T3 was made largely of wood and was one the fastest planes of World War Two. ....

James Crook (100) with the birthday card from the Queen that he is now able to read thanks to help from the charity.
An Aultbea World War Two veteran with sight loss is regaining his love of reading once more thanks to specialist equipment and support from charity Sight Scotland Veterans.
James Crook has age-related sight loss that had impacted his ability to read independently, but he was recently able to enjoy reading his 100th birthday cards – including his card from the Queen – with use of his new ‘Vario’ video magnifier from Sight Scotland Veterans. ....
