When you think of popular rally cars, you think of Subarus, Audis, Mitsubishis, Toyotas, and maybe even a Ford or two. Lotus is pretty far down the list, considering its cars are built to run laps at paved race tracks rather than gravel-covered stage roads. This Exige is one of the few exceptions.

This mid-2000s Lotus Exige, driven by Justin Northage and Scott Muhling in Australia s Rally Queensland back in May, has been modified to tackle dirt. Despite being a long way from the smooth, uninterrupted tarmac it was originally designed to be used on, it looks incredibly quick and capable. Ask the average Canadian consumer what Mitsubishi means, and you might get just a shrug. The all-new Outlander looks to change things up.
Mitsubishi has been building cars since 1971 – in fact, they are the first Japanese manufacturer to mass-produce a car – but the company only showed up in Canada in 2002. Nickelback has been around longer. Further, the company’s products seemed more value focused than cutting edge. The previous Outlander had been on sale for almost a decade with minor updates, and felt less fresh than the competition. ....
