Number of single-parent families in the UK falls as fewer couples split up over money


The number of single-parent families has fallen after fewer couples split up over money problems after the British economy bounced back from the 2008 financial crisis, new figures have revealed.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) found the number of single-parent families was down 2.95 per cent from 2,943,000 in 2010 to 2,856,000 last year. 
One-parent families accounted for just 14.7 per cent of all families in the UK last year compared to 16.28 per cent in 2010.  
A family lawyer has suggested that the reason for less family breakdowns is due to an improvement in finances since the 2008 recession meaning that fewer couples were breaking up over money-related arguments.   ....
