Pius X’s Markowski named Gatorade Player of the Year
The 6-foot-3 senior center led the Thunderbolts to a 25-0 record and the Class A state championship this past season. Markowski averaged 23.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, while converting 59.5 percent of her field goal attempts.

LINCOLN, Neb. (Gatorade Press Release) In its 36th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Alexis Markowski of Pius X High School as its 2020-21 Gatorade Nebraska Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Markowski is the first Gatorade Nebraska Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Pius X High School.
Day two of the NSAA State Track and Field Tournament saw new, and old, champions crowned on Thursday at Burke Stadium. In the boys shot put, Omaha North s Tristan Gray takes the gold after a throw of 61 feet, 2 inches. Papillion-La Vista s Norah Sis captured first in the girls high jump after clearing 5 8 on her final attempt.Omaha Burke junior Devon Jackson was dominant on the day, running the 100 meter dash in 10.57 seconds and the 200 meter dash in 21.63 seconds to take home two gold medals at the meet.In the 300 meter boys hurdles, Omaha North s Cameron Gunn narrowly edged Abe Hoskins of Omaha Central to take first in a near photo finish.Omaha Marian s Lauren Harris capped her career on the track with her third straight gold medal in the girls 400 meter dash.Elkhorn South is the Class A boys team champion with 88 points.Fremont took the Class A girls crown, beating out Lincoln Southwest with 83 points.

Whether it s the Spring Game, the farmer s market, or the marathon, there s something for everyone in LNK this weekend!

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- Whether it’s the Spring Game, the Haymarket farmer’s market, or the marathon, there’s something for everybody in Lincoln this weekend!
The marathon and half marathon will happen on the streets of Lincoln on Sunday. Last year it was canceled due to covid-19.
Runners will have to wear masks at the start and finish lines, but they can take them off while running. Participants and spectators will be required to keep six feet of distance and all runners are required to self-screen for covid-19 prior to the race.
