The Belleville General Hospital Foundation received a gift of $75,000 Thursday donated by the late Lisa Martha Simpkins.
She left the donation in her will to the Oncology Department at BGH, as she had a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Simpkins passed away in June 2020 of cancer, having battled it on three occasions, notably breast and lung cancer – she was 91.

Mrs. Simpkins came to Canada in 1952 from Germany, looking for a better life following World War II. She was very grateful for the standard of life she had here, making her way as a nanny before turning to fashion. Her appreciation for quality healthcare lead her to making a will four years ago, where wanted to leave a legacy that would also help others to receive the same care she did.
