EJ OBIENA (athletics) – Obiena, 25, became the first Filipino athlete to qualify to the Tokyo Olympics after hitting the Olympic pole vault standard of 5.81 meters in a Pole Vault meet in Chiara, Italy in 2019. Ranked No. 10 in the world, Obiena has significantly improved his season best to 5.87m at a Polish event early July, which also resets the national outdoor record. He finished fourth at the Bauhaus-Galan Wanda Diamond League Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden last July 4 – a tournament that served as a preview of the Olympics. He has been based in Formia, Italy for the past years, training under Ukrainian coach Vitaly Petrov. ....

Sprinter Kristina Knott inches closer to Tokyo Olympics

Fil-American sprinter Kristina Knott inched closer to qualifying standard times for this year’s Tokyo Olympics following her performance at the 2021 LSU Alumni Gold at Baton Rouge, Louisiana over the weekend.
Knott timed 11.28 seconds to finish fifth in the women’s 100-meter dash and get closer to the Olympic standard time of 11.15sec.
The double-gold medalist at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games also raced in the women’s 200m Olympic Deve category, clocking 23.17sec for bronze and moving closer to the 22.80sec Olympic standard time.
Knott’s recent 100m performance improved from her recent feat at the Pure Springs Invitational in Florida two weeks ago where she posted 11.33sec for silver. ....
