New River Falls School Board member, Lindsey Curtis, looks to collaborate with community


Over the last few months, the River Falls School Board has been working to fill its vacancy. At a special meeting held on June 28, the school board appointed candidate Lindsey Curtis to the open seat. 
Curtis has outlined her commitment to collaborating with the community, promoting pride and supporting policy that upholds educational excellence. Her first public meeting will be at the Board of Education meeting on July 19 at 6 p.m.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to have been appointed to fill the vacant seat on the School Board here in River Falls,” said Curtis in an email to the River Falls Journal. “It is my understanding that the other applicants were all well-qualified and care deeply about our schools and our community. Our district is fortunate to have had so many people who were willing to step forward and be considered for this position.” ....

NORWALK, Conn. South Norwalk is getting an upgrade, financed by a $3 million state grant aimed at honoring the late Martin Luther King Jr. by sprucing up the areas named after him.
The Martin Luther King initiative has been meeting for
two yearsand now the group’s “intangible ideas (will) become tangible projects, and to really improve the sites of our city,” State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-25) said at a press conference called Thursday to highlight the funding. ....

There are no services Monday to commemorate Martin Luther King Day because of the pandemic, Mayor Harry Rilling said at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.
He said he had spoken to former State Rep. Bruce Morris (D-140), the Rev. Lindsay Curtis and the Rev. Jeffrey Ingraham.
“They’re hopeful that in the spring, or if necessary in the summer, they will have a fundraising for the Martin Luther King Scholarship Foundation, which is the beneficiary of the Martin Luther King Day citywide ceremonies that we have every year at City Hall,” he said. “So, I would encourage all the Council people and others that Martin Luther King Day, we look at it as a day on not a day off. And a day when we can perform random acts of kindness, in the name and in the legacy of the ....
