NCDC-NAFSCOB MoU bears fruit; LINAC launches online training
Bhima inaugurated the training; Several State Co-op Banks attend
To give further boost to the MoU between NCDC and National Federation of State Cooperative Banks Ltd (NAFSCOB), the dedicated training academy for cooperatives, the Laxmanrao Inamdar National Academy for Cooperative Research and Development (LINAC) launched a five-day online training programme on Project Formulation and Appraisal Techniques Monday.
The training program, fully financed by NCDC under its promotional scheme, is meant for the executives of NAFSCOB, State Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks. Executives from State Cooperative Banks of Nagaland, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Goa attended the first in the series of training programs. ....

Scientists Uncover Structure of Light-Driven Enzyme with Potential Biofuel Applications – Advanced BioFuels USA


U.S. Department of Eneryg/SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory)  Although many organisms capture and respond to sunlight, enzymes – proteins that catalyze biochemical reactions – are rarely driven by light. Scientists have identified only three types of natural photoenzymes so far. The newest one, discovered in 2017, is fatty acid photodecarboxylase (FAP). Derived from microscopic algae, it uses blue light to catalyze the conversion of fatty acids, found in fats and oils, into alkanes and alkenes.
“A growing number of labs envision using FAPs for green chemistry applications, because alkanes and alkenes are important components of solvents and fuels, including gasoline and jet fuels. And the transformation of fatty acids into alkanes or alkenes happens in a single step within the enzyme,” says Martin Weik, the leader of a research group at the Institute of Biologie Structurale at the Universite Grenoble Alpes. ....

NCDC’s training program for fishermen drawing huge response
NCDC’s one day awareness cum training program for fishermen across states is drawing huge response. The training is imparted under the newly launched fisheries flagship scheme– Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSSY).
The Yojana aims at focused development and promotion of seaweed cultivation and value chain with requisite financial allocations. LINAC branches of NCDC are playing an active role in this exercise.
Such programs were organized in Panjim, Goa and Morena, Madhya Pradesh, in which scores of fishermen participated. Earlier such an event was organized in Chandipur, Odisha in which Union Minister Pratap Sarangi participated. ....
