Abuse allegations draw national attention at Linfield University

This November, a now-former trustee at Linfield University will go on trial for eight counts of sexual abuse. The accusations against him, brought by four different women, date back to 2017. Since that time, a series of Linfield students and faculty have brought more accusations of harassment and inappropriate touching against multiple other trustees and one high-ranking administrator at the small, private university in McMinnville.
The story has largely been bubbling under the surface, drawing continuing local coverage, namely from the Oregonian/OregonLive. Recently, Linfield s troubles went national, when the New York Times reported the school had fired a tenured professor who tweeted he d been trying to shed light on the issue. ....

The snitcher–or whistleblower–in this case is Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, who was until recently a tenured Shakespeare scholar and a voting faculty member on Linfield’s Board of Trustees. This week Daniel Pollack-Pelzner found out he was fired from Linfield University when his MacBook froze and a message said he was locked out. He couldn t get into his university email, and an auto-reply from his personal account to his Linfield address said, “Daniel Pollack-Pelzner is no longer an employee of Linfield University.”
Pollack-Pelzner was a tenured English professor. He d taught at the university for more than a decade. And without a hearing or warning, he was fired on Tuesday afternoon. ....

Linfield Fires Jewish Professor Who Accused It of Anti-Semitism

Linfield University on Tuesday terminated Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, Ronni Lacroute Chair in Shakespeare Studies, citing his breaches of “duty” to the institution. Pollack-Pelzner, a faculty trustee, recently said that members of Linfield’s Board of Trustees had retaliated against him for urging that they do more about reported sexual misconduct among their ranks. Pollack-Pelzner, who is Jewish, also said that some members of the board, including Linfield president Miles Davis, made anti-Semitic comments to and about him.
A university spokesperson said via email that Pollack-Pelzner was terminated, effective immediately, for cause, including engaging in conduct that is harmful to the university, circulating false statements about Linfield and its board members, and refusing to comply with university policies and, in doing so, has been insubordinate and interfered with the university’s administration of its responsibilities.
