Law Enforcement honor guard practice solemn duty in 'mock funeral'

Members of different area law enforcement agency honor guards were in Lubbock this week as part of a Regional Multi-Agency Honor Guard Academy.
The academy was hosted by the Arizona Border Patrol, Del Rio Border Patrol and The Department of Public Safety.
Their time in Lubbock wrapped up Friday with a solemn test a Mock Funeral as part of their final training. The ceremony, complete with a flag-covered casket, was conducted Friday morning at First Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Members of the Honor Guards from Midland PD, Lea County Sheriff’s Office, Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock Fire Rescue, Department of Public Safety, and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office attended this week s training. ....

A suspect in an early Sunday morning shooting in Roswell that left one man wounded has been arrested in Lea County.
Personnel with the Lea County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Austin York, 22, of Roswell, Sunday evening on an outstanding warrant obtained by Roswell police earlier that day, Todd Wildermuth, public information officer for the RPD, said Monday.
York faces one criminal count each of shooting at or from a motor vehicle; aggravated battery; bribery or intimidation of a witness; retaliation against a witness; firearms or destructive devices receipt, transportation or possession by a felon; and aggravated assault, deadly weapon, according to court records. ....

Threats of warrants, arrest used in new phone scam

As the spokesperson of the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Vivian Martinez was concerned scammers would start using her name to get money from potential victims who feared being arrested.
Her angst came days after the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office warned people an individual was calling local residents claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office and demanding pre-paid gift cards to cancel out warrants.
Martinez said such scams were reported nearly a year ago in neighboring Lea County.
“We were concerned the scammers would start using my name. I’m on the radio a lot. People know I’m the public information officer for the Sheriff and we were concerned people would give that validity in their minds that it was a valid call,” she said. ....

Hobbs male wanted for questioning in shooting incident

HOBBS, N.M. A Hobbs man is wanted by the lea County Sheriff s Office for questioning in his role in a recent shooting incident.
On November 21, Lea County Deputies heard six gun shots near Comanche and North Fowler street. They would receive several calls later about a male victim who had gunshot wounds around that area.
The male shot was 24-year-old Emmanuel J. Roberson. The Deputies performed life saving actions on him once they arrived. ....
