Kenny Mascary named first-ever Community Partnerships Manager for Now + There.
BOSTON, MASS
.- Kenny Mascary was recently named the first-ever Community Partnerships Manager for Now + There, a Boston-based nonprofit that brings temporary, site-specific public art to all of the city’s neighborhoods.
Having a strong background with mission-driven organizations, Mascary will work with the Now + There team to expand the organization’s reach and community impact, developing community-based relationships through public art projects. c“Growing up in Haiti, public art was mostly seen as art that happened, but no one knew where it came from,” said Mascary. “What always captured my attention was the size of the art, it couldn’t be ignored. Or how it meant something significant.” ....

For artist Cicely Carew, process and presence might be just as meaningful as the remarkable artwork she creates. The visual artist, mom and yoga practitioner paints, works in mixed media and monotype printmaking and talks of loving, forgiving and healing as though living is art itself. She spends much of her time developing her work, cultivating happiness and making space to forgive herself and others for mistakes.
“When I try to control things, that s when it gets messy. My art reminds me of that,” Carew says. “So, I let those mistakes stay there, or the messy things stay there because it reminds me to stay light and to laugh.” ....

BROOKLINE — Yng-Ru Chen never planned to open an art gallery. COVID-19 changed that.
Last year, Chen moved from New York back to her childhood home in Brookline to send her kids to schools here. She was still running her art advisory company, Praise Shadows, from a Brooklyn studio, working with artists and companies on new models for entrepreneurship.
Then the pandemic hit.
“I realized how much more localized art was going to be,” Chen said.
As the pandemic wore on, Coolidge Corner businesses began to shutter. The GNC vitamin and supplements store on Harvard Street closed. Anna’s Taqueria closed after 25 years in the neighborhood. The Gap recently announced it would shutter in January. ....
