Runaway investigation leads to multiple charges


Six individuals are facing felony charges ranging from felony child abuse to statutory rape following an investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook, an investigation began the week of spring break with a call concerning two possible runaway juveniles. Once the juveniles were located, they were found to have high levels of methamphetamine in their system.
“At that time, Monroe County deputies and Child Protective Services began to take a closer look into the details of their time on the run, as well as how they had originally been introduced to methamphetamine. That investigation has led to multiple felony charges and arrests, with more to come,” he said. ....

OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - There are new details in the ongoing investigation into this week’s apartment fire in East Alabama that left a suspect behind bars and several families without a place to call home.
Fire officials aren’t saying exactly how the fire started, but the Opelika Police Department has made an arrest.
31-year-old Frederick Ashmore is in the Lee County Detention Center after police say he admitted to starting a fire at the Pinehurst Villa Apartments in Opelika Thursday morning. ....

Two Men Charged with Capital Murder in Auburn Teen's Death

On February 17, around 9:21 am, Marcus Okeef Wigley, 35, of Auburn was apprehended in the 1200 block of Amy Court in Auburn by members of the United States Marshal Service, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Division. Wigley was arrested on a charge of Capital Murder in connection with the death of Thomas Anthony Green, 18, of Auburn.
On September, 5 around 1:30 AM, Green was walking near the area of Foster Street and Clark Avenue in Auburn when he was assaulted and abducted by three black males. According to witnesses at the scene, the three males put Green in the back seat of a dark colored SUV and drove away. The witnesses were also able to identify three males to include Taharra Jaquay Brunson, 41, and Wigley, as taking part in the assault and kidnapping. ....
