Burrell parents win Lower Burrell approval for senior parade on Leechburg Road

Burrell School District parents received approval from Lower Burrell Council this week to hold a senior parade down a section of Leechburg Road in early June.
The parade is scheduled for Sunday, June 6 at 4 p.m., featuring the senior students in cars, fire trucks and more. The rain date is Wednesday, June 9 at 6 p.m.
The parade route will begin in the City Hall, Bethel Street area and end near Mogie’s Pub at Leechburg and Wildlife Lodge roads. ....

Plans for what started as a small community St. Patrick’s Day parade late Saturday morning gained traction, stirring controversy and confusion before receiving official support from Lower Burrell Council.
The estimated 20-minute parade on Leechburg Road, from Nevada Street at Stewart Elementary School to Hillcrest Shopping Center at Leechburg and Wildlife Lodge roads, was billed as a small, feel-good event presented by the community on Saturday. ....

After 16 years, Lower Burrell Councilman Joe Grillo said it’s time to go. He announced last week he would not seek reelection this year during a council meeting this week.
“I’ve given it long and hard thought since 2018 when I had a cancer scare,” Grillo said. “Thank God, I’m now a cancer survivor.” ....
