IGD Collaborates With Food Industry To Shift People Towards Healthier, More Sustainable Diets

As part of its ambition to make healthy and sustainable diets easy for everyone, the Health from IGD team has joined forces with leading retailers and manufacturers, and researchers at the University of Leeds, to trial a series of interventions to see what drives long-term behavioural change.
Last summer, IGD convened a healthy and sustainable diets project group to collaboratively identify and test strategies that could encourage people to make healthier, more sustainable food and drink choices. Members of the project group have already begun to trial some of those strategies in real-life settings, in a set of research interventions being rigorously designed and implemented by IGD’s chosen research partner, the University of Leeds, through its Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) and Consumer Data Research Centre. ....

Heart patients ‘fearful’ of seeking medical help amid COVID crisis
Data analysis by researchers at the University of Leeds is revealing a second sharp drop in the number of people admitted to hospital in England with acute heart failure or a heart attack.
The decline may be linked to patients being reluctant to go to hospital out of a fear of contracting COVID-19.
“…if patients delay or avoid treatment, they will suffer life-limiting complications or they will die.”
Patient numbers declined sharply during the first wave of the pandemic and although they did rebound, they never returned to the levels seen before the pandemic. They began to fall sharply again as the numbers of COVID-19 infections began to surge ahead of the second lockdown in early November 2020. ....
