City planners approve affordable housing development for Hollygrove

An affordable housing development planned for Hollygrove has won the unanimous approval of the City Planning Commission.
Called Grove Place, the development would take up an entire square, about 1.8 acres, bounded by Earhart Boulevard and Monroe, Leonidas and Colapissa streets. Eleven existing doubles and triplexes, now vacant, will be renovated.
The developers, New Orleans Restoration Properties, are also planning to construct a three-story 20-unit apartment building at Earhart and Monroe, on a site that once held a Church’s Chicken. That section of the property has commercial zoning, requiring a use exception from the city for the multi-family residential building. ....

Louisiana housing director suspended after sexual harassment complaint

The head of the Louisiana Housing Corporation has been suspended in relation to a sexual harassment complaint, Louisiana Treasurer John Schroder confirmed to USA Today Network Tuesday.
Schroder, a member of the agency s governing board, said executive director Keith Cunningham was suspended by board Chair Jennifer Vidrine, mayor of Ville Platte, on April 14.
USA Today Network is seeking comment from Cunningham, who was placed on administrative leave with pay.

Gov. John Bel Edwards launches program to aid renters, landlords

BATON ROUGE Gov. John Bel Edwards announced the launch of a program that will provide financial assistance to Louisiana renters and landlords experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program is funded through the federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (H.R. 133).
This relief package includes $25 billion for emergency rental assistance, of which $161 million has been allocated to the state to provide assistance in 57 Louisiana parishes.
The Louisiana Housing Corp., in partnership with the Louisiana Office of Community Development, will administer the state program. In addition, the law allowed local jurisdictions with populations more than 200,000 to apply for and receive direct allocations from the U.S. Treasury. ....
