COVID-19 likely will go down as the third-leading cause of death in Iowa in 2020, when 4,667 Iowans died of COVID-related causes, according to state public health data. If the stateâs five-year averages for causes of death hold, only cancer and heart disease will have claimed more Iowansâ lives than COVID-19 in 2020. For the years 2015 to 2019, the most recent for which state data is available, an average of 7,124 Iowans each year died of heart disease and an average of 6,431 Iowans each year died of cancer. If 2020âs numbers reflect those five-year averages, COVID-19 will go down as Iowaâs third-leading cause of death, more than double chronic respiratory diseases, accidents, strokes, Alzheimerâs, and diabetes, according to state data. ....

Robert Louis Katz entered a guilty plea to the single charge during court proceedings this morning, Jan. 25. Crown Prosecutor Ann Lerchs told court Katz, 77, was charged on May 18, 2017. Penticton RCMP executed a search warrant on Katz’ residence following a tip from British Columbia’s Counter Exploitation Unit of child pornography being downloaded to Katz’s internet address. Police found 48 items, including an iPad, iPhones, thumb drives and memory sticks containing 515 images and one video of photos depicting children between the ages of three and 15 years old in sexual scenes, often involving adults. ....

Researchers from YouGov, a well-respected global polling company, and King’s College London (KCL) found that 45% of British adults agreed with at least one of six anti-Semitic tropes. These included racial stereotypes that Jews control the media, “chase money,” or “talk about the Holocaust just to further their political agenda.” The survey was conducted using the Generalised Antisemitism Scale, devised by Dr. Daniel Allington of King’s College, Louise Katz of the University of Derby, and Dr David Hirsh of Goldsmiths. ....
