California’s new ethnic studies curriculum is being put to an early test in Orange County, where organizers are riling up parents in the Los Alamitos Unified School District to oppose elective coursework and materials they say promote divisive, anti-white rhetoric.
“These courses are filled with hate for America and all America stands for,” opponents wrote in a letter to the Los Alamitos community, adding that the curriculum “teaches children that America is based on white supremacy and that white people are racists, even if they don’t know it.” It’s an extreme view in a state that is a national leader in ethnic studies education, but the opposition is gaining a footing in some conservative corners. ....

Community Rallies to Reopen Yorba Linda Schools
About 70 parents, teachers, and students rallied outside the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) office March 9 to show their support for schoolsreopening.
Supervisor Don Wagner, a keynote speaker at the event, was among those lobbying for a full-time return to classrooms.
“It is perfectly safe, we believe, based on the science, to let the kids get back into the classroom,” Wagner told The Epoch Times.
“We see private schools have been able to operate now for months, we’re seeing the vaccines roll out. More and more people are being protected. Our case rates are declining. There’s no reason these kids, who are the least susceptible to disease, shouldn’t be back in the schools, shouldn’t be out playing on the playground, shouldn’t be out on the sports fields.” ....

A trustee for the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) who was once part of an anti-terrorism effort by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department following the 9/11 attacks says her attendance at the pro-President Donald Trump rally in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 doesn’t make her a “terrorist” or an “insurrectionist,” as her detractors have claimed.
Leandra Blades went on a “girls’ trip” to Washington to hear Trump speak because she’s always wanted to go to one of his rallies, she told The Epoch Times on Jan. 18. A social media post by one of her girlfriends included a photo of them at the rally; that image was later used by people within the school district to demand her resignation, she said. ....

More than 6,600 people have signed an online petition demanding the resignation of a recently elected Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified board member who was present at a rally that led to the siege of the U.S. Capitol.
Leandra Blades has been lambasted in the past week since she and a group of friends attended a Trump rally in Washington, D.C., that turned into a violent attack.
Blades denied her involvement in the siege in a Facebook post that has since been deleted. She said she was present at the rally, but left to meet with friends and get lunch after she heard of the violence unfolding within the Capitol building. ....
