Stop of suspicious vehicle in Cochrane leads to arrest of 3 Calgary residents

CALGARY
Cochrane RCMP stopped a suspicious looking vehicle in a parking lot off Highway 1A in Cochrane Monday, resulting in the arrest of three Calgary residents and the seizure of a gun and a quantity of drugs.
When RCMP officers tried to stop the vehicle in the parking lot, the driver rammed his vehicle into the RCMP car, in an effort to escape.
However, officers were able to surround the vehicle in question, at which point, the three individuals surrendered to police.
A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded 9 millimetre hand gun, and what’s believed to be quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and oxycodone. ....

Former Notre Dame Pride linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga hoping NFL dream comes true

CALGARY
Amen Ogbonbemiga was born in Nigeria, relocated to football-crazy Texas, and when he was in grade eight, moved with his family to Calgary, where Ogbonbemiga got a little football crazy himself.
Ogbongbemiga didn t start playing football until grade 7, but as his high school career went on, he got better and better.
And as he improved, he had a dream to one day play in the NFL. And now that dream is on the cusp of becoming a reality.
Ogbongbemiga has high hopes that he ll hear his name called at the 2021 NFL draft, which takes place in Cleveland April 29 through May 1. ....

Female youth injured in serious crash on Macleod Trail at 94th Avenue S.E.

CALGARY
Emergency crews were busy Tuesday afternoon responding to two serious crashes within minutes of each other.
The first saw two vehicles collide at Macleod Trail and 94th Avenue S.E., sending one into a light standard. A female youth was rushed to Foothills hospital in serious, life-threatening condition. A male youth who was riding in the same vehicle was taken to hospital in stable condition.
A portion of Macleod Trail was closed while police investigated.
At about the same time, emergency crews were called to a serious crash on westbound Anderson Road between Elbow Drive and 14th Street S.W. ....

We re rising fully into the high pressure zone today! Warm, southerly wind will dominate the forecast with gusts in the 40s, and temperatures rising back above 10 C for a few days. There is something to be said when the convective outlook for the western prairies can be quoted as saying no major changes to this pattern are expected in the short to medium term, lending credence to discussions the other day that we d be lingering above normal for a while.

'Please bring them home': Father gives tearful plea for help to find daughters missing since Friday

CALGARY
The father of two young Cochrane, Alta. girls who haven t been seen for three days made an emotional plea Monday for information on their whereabouts.
Colin Zak is desperate to find his missing daughters, five-year old Leonine O Driscoll-Zak and two-year-old Wyatt O Driscoll-Zak, who were last seen Friday morning at their mom s home near Cochrane.
“I’m just so worried about my children,” said Zak.
“I don’t know where my girls are. I don’t know if they’re close to here if they’re far. We don’t know if they fled the country.”
Court documents describe a high-conflict parenting dispute following the couple s separation in 2019. ....
