Larned-Pawnee County Airport recipient of $13,000 grant
14 Kansas regional airports part of CRRSA funding
LARNED Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) announced last week that Larned-Pawnee County Regional Airport is the recipient of a $13,000 grant from the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act. The airport is among 14 regional airports in Kansas to receive $1,172,932 in U.S. Department of Transportation grants.
“This money will help with costs of operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitation, janitorial services and preventing the spread of germs at the airport,” said Larned-Pawnee County Airport Manager Steve Gross. ....

Ciara Hodgkinson of Pratt, Kansas, a December graduate in agribusiness, along with Summer Smades of Leoti, Kansas, a senior in agricultural economics, has been awarded the David and Susan Barton Cooperative Leadership Scholarship through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center and the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University.
Hodgkinson was an active student after transferring from Pratt Community College to Kansas State University. She served as president of Alpha Zeta and served as secretary and vice president of Collegiate Farm Bureau. She has been involved in many other organizations including K-State Agricultural Economics-Agribusiness Club, Gamma Sigma Delta, Block and Bridle and Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, Ciara finds time to volunteer on service projects. She has completed internships with Skyland Grain, Kansas Farm Bureau and also worked with CoBank on an extended internship. Education and collaboration were repeatedly emphasized during the second-ever Ogallala Aquifer Summit, a virtual gathering space where hundreds of concerned farmers, researchers and resource managers shared ideas about how to preserve the vitality of a rural region that overlies one of the most heavily pumped underground reservoirs in the world.
Roughly 95 percent of all freshwater currently withdrawn from the eight-state aquifer goes to irrigate commodity crops.
Since the first aquifer summit in 2018, previous participants have expanded on several innovative programs or spread them to new areas.
The Kansas Water Office now has 15 water technology farms that demonstrate the latest irrigation technology in a real world setting. ....

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame has announced its 2021 inductees and award winners who will be recognized at its 12th annual banquet to be held Aug. 9, 2021, in Nashville, Tenn.
Johnny Trotter, president and CEO of Bar-G Feedyard in Hereford, Texas, and Steve Gabel, founder of Magnum Feedyard in Wiggins, Colo., are the newest inductees into the Hall of Fame, which annually honors two leaders who have made lasting contributions to the cattle feeding industry.
Gary Smith, visiting professor in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, is the recipient of the Leadership Award. George Eckert of Green Plains Cattle Company in Leoti, Kan., and Gaspar Martinez of Harris Feeding Company in Coalinga, Calif., were named Service Award winners. ....
