Norwalk, CT – Norwalk Public Library is hosting its second One Book One Community discussion via Zoom on Monday, May 10, 2021, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with Marcelo Hernandez Castillo’s “Children of the Land” as the topic of conversation.
Lucia Rilling, Nowalk’s First Lady; Edwin Camacho, Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) Chair, Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Norwalk Public Schools Superintendent; Diana Carpio, Norwalk Board of Education Vice Chair; James Martinez, Norwalk Public Schools Director of School Counseling; and Eloisa Melendez, Democratic Town Committee Chair will lead the discussion.

NORWALK, Conn. Logistics, outreach, and handling skepticism among different communities were just a few of the topics addressed at a Tuesday virtual town hall meeting about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Mayor Harry Rilling organized a COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force, aimed at addressing planning and logistics, as well as communications and outreach related to the COVID-19 vaccine and their distribution in Norwalk. The task force includes members from different areas of the community such as: Deanna D’Amore, the city’s health director; Rev. Lindsey Curtis, pastor of Grace Baptist Church; Theresa Argondezzi, health educator in Norwalk; Lamond Daniels, chief of community services, and Brenda Wilcox Williams, chief communications officer for Norwalk Public Schools. ....

Connecticut Gives Every Student a Computer and Home Internet to Close the Digital Divide

Even before the pandemic, more than 25 million Americans lacked access to broadband internet. But even when they can get online, students of color and low-income families were more likely to share a single device. Today, when strong internet connectivity is all but required for learning, such gaps can serve as insurmountable barriers to learning.
The state of Connecticut thinks it may have found a straightforward solution to the problem: Give every student in grades K-12 a laptop and pay for their internet. And for the past few months, the state has quietly been rolling it out. Recently, the state announced that it had achieved near universal access for both device distribution and connectivityâa significant achievement in a state where 40 percent of households in some cities lack home access, according to census data. ....
