I vaguely remember growing plants in elementary school in those little milk cartons.
Now as an adult, I am a certified houseplant killer. So the idea of taking on a garden and then using said garden to feed myself much less another family is beyond my skillset.

Consumers Energy Foundation makes donations to nonprofits in Michigan


The Foundation has now provided $5.4 million in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic since March.
“Consumers Energy is committed to being part of the solution as Michiganders work toward brighter days ahead this year,” Consumers Energy’s president and CEO Garrick Rochow said in a statement. “These are extraordinary times, and we are humbled to play a part in supporting organizations that are doing so much for our communities.”
The Consumers Energy Foundation grants support those working on the front lines to directly meet basic needs such as food and shelter. They include $200,000 for the Food Bank Council of Michigan to address food insecurity, including mobile food distributions across the state. ....

Dekeea Quinney Davis collected frozen turkeys for a Thanksgiving donation, an initiative she, Erica King and Village Lansing saw success from.
An increased need for food as winter begins  has Lansing area nonprofits setting aside food donations for families in need.
Last year, 13.8% of Ingham County residents experienced food insecurity. This year it is 19%. 
Primarily it’s because of the pandemic with people having job loss and students being home, there are children who are not receiving the meals they would receive, Michelle Lantz, chief executive officer of the Greater Lansing Food Bank.  We know it is hard for seniors to receive the foods they would need because they are a vulnerable population. ....
