Lansing nonprofits to feed families for the holidays

An increased need for food as winter begins  has Lansing area nonprofits setting aside food donations for families in need.
Last year, 13.8% of Ingham County residents experienced food insecurity. This year it is 19%. 
"Primarily it’s because of the pandemic with people having job loss and students being home, there are children who are not receiving the meals they would receive," Michelle Lantz, chief executive officer of the Greater Lansing Food Bank. "We know it is hard for seniors to receive the foods they would need because they are a vulnerable population."
