LANSING, Mich. â Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson along with Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey held a virtual press conference tto publicly express their opposition to a package of 39 GOP-backed bills they say are meant to suppress the vote.
Both Benson and Winfrey say the proposed changes to Michiganâs election laws would make it harder for people to vote and are part of a countrywide effort to tip the scales in favor of Republicans. ....

LANSING, Mich. – Top election officials came out Thursday against a slate of bills from GOP lawmakers aimed at making sweeping changes to Michigan’s election laws.
Michigan’s election leaders criticized the package of Republican-backed voting bills in the State Senate. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson did not hold back.
“We are witnessing state legislators acting as if their anti-American effort to take away citizens freedom to vote is somehow the right thing to do,” Benson said.

The family of Mitchel Kiefer said he lived more life in his 18 years than most people do in a lifetime. His love of family, hockey and the fact that so many people saw him as their best friend shows the impact he had on so many.
Mitchel was struck by a distracted driver and pushed into oncoming traffic, where he was struck by another vehicle. Even in death, he is still impacting the lives of many. ....

LANSING, Mich. – Purchasing tickets for a family member paid off for a Clinton Township woman who won a $150,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Diana Marchetti, matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball – 14-20-39-65-67 PB: 02 – in the Jan. 16 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Powerplay, the prize was multiplied to $150,000. She bought her winning ticket at the Mobil gas station, located at 42020 Garfield in Clinton Township.
“I was purchasing tickets for one of my family members and decided to purchase a few for myself,” said the 75-year-old Marchetti. “I was checking my tickets the next morning and saw I had matched the Powerball and thought I’d gotten my money back. I continued matching more of my numbers and I couldn’t believe it. ....

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan’s COVID-19 metrics have the state’s top health official “incredibly concerned,” with some numbers five times higher than they were two months ago.
This week, Michigan surpassed the case and hospitalization rates that we saw in the fall, she said.
