Ford is launching the Maverick hybrid in 2022
Ford is launching the 2022 Maverick, a compact pickup truck with a full hybrid powertrain, in the US with prices starting from $19,995. An electric offshoot is also not out of the question at this stage.
The hybrid-electric pickup truck offers 1,500 pounds of payload capacity in the basic setup, while the optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost gas engine can tow up to 4,000 pounds. A 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder hybrid powertrain delivers 191 horsepower when combined with the electric motor and 155 lb.-ft. of torque.
A small electric pickup based on the Maverick at least does not seem out of the question, however, Ford is remaining purposefully vague for now. An electric spinoff of the popular Bronco is also on the books, while Mike Levine, North American Product Communications Manager at Ford confirmed an electric Ford Explorer was also upcoming. A member of the Mach E Forum noticed that just one day after the post went up, Levine responded that the markup has been removed from this Mach-E. No additional details were provided and it s fair to assume Levine, or someone else at Ford, picked up the phone and called the dealer requesting it to stop this nonsense.
