LABOUR Party members in Northern Ireland have criticised Sir Keir Starmer for not meeting them during his visit to the region last week.
Labour has more than one-thousand members in Northern Ireland but headquarters in Britain prevents the party from standing in elections.
Previously the Labour flag in the north was carried by the affiliated but separate Northern Ireland Labour Party. Since 2003, British Labour has allowed membership in the north but has not contested elections. ....

Boris Johnson told amnesty for Troubles killings 'fundamentally wrong'


A cross-community group representing victims and survivors of the Troubles has warned the Prime Minister it would be “fundamentally wrong” to grant an amnesty for all killings during the conflict.
The Wave Trauma centre has written an open letter to Boris Johnson following the recent collapse of high profile legacy cases.
The letter argues that dealing effectively with “complex and sensitive legacy issues” will not be done by “perverting the criminal justice system”.
Proposals briefed to the Times newspaper in May suggested that the Government is planning to end all prosecutions for suspected offences, whether carried out by veterans or by republican and loyalist paramilitaries. ....

Martin McGuinness named among most influential people in UK history


Former Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has joined Royal photographer Lord Snowdon and Sixties socialite Christine Keeler as new entrants in an acclaimed publication documenting the lives of high-profile people.
The latest Oxford Dictionary of National Biography adds details of 224 men and women who left their mark on the UK, and who died during 2017.
In total the dictionary, published today, comprises biographies of 64,054 individuals, written by over 14,000 contributors.
The additions also include actors Sir Roger Moore and Rosemary Leach; Colin Dexter, the creator of Inspector Morse; and cricketer Rachael Heyhoe Flint.
The Northern Ireland entrants are led by Mr McGuinness, the former IRA leader turned peacemaker, who jointly led the Executive from 2007 until shortly before his death in March 2017. ....
