Hancock County Sheriff's Log Week of July 22 - The Ellsworth American


ELLSWORTH — Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to check on a woman lying in the roadway next to a vehicle on Black Woods Road in Township 10 July 12.
Deputy Marcus Downes said after investigating, Yolanda Armstrong, 35, of Milbridge was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. Deputy Travis Frost assisted.
Accident
A car struck the rear of another car that slowed in traffic on Route 3 in Trenton July 15, said Deputy Luke Gross.
Jason McCrystal, 43, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, which struck a 2007 Subaru Outback operated by Daniel Strout, 53, of Anchorage, Alaska, Gross said. Both cars sustained reportable damage. No one was injured.

Winter Harbor Police Log Week of July 22
WINTER HARBOR — Sgt. Philip Sargent assisted Winter Harbor Fire/EMS July 6 with a call to assist an 84-year-old man who was breathing but unresponsive on Newman Street. After the man was assessed by fire/EMS personnel, he was transported by Schoodic Ambulance to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth.
Keeping the peace
Sargent responded to a “keep the peace” call July 7 on Sargent Street. The call was completed without incident.
Accident
Police Chief Danny Mitchell Jr. responded to a vehicle crash on Main Street July 8. The two individuals involved were not injured in the fender-bender.

Karen Jo Young wrote a letter to her local newspaper criticizing executives at the hospital where she worked as an activities coordinator, arguing that their actions led to staffing shortages and other patient safety problems.
Hours after her letter was published in September 2017, officials at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, Maine, fired her, citing a policy that no employee may give information to the news media without the direct involvement of the media office.
But a federal appellate court recently said Young’s firing violated the law and ordered that she be reinstated. The court’s decision could mean that hospitals and other employers will need to revise their policies barring workers from talking to the news media and posting on social media.
