Assistance League of Inland North County reopened its Thrift Shop at 2068 E. Valley Parkway and hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The shop features clothing and household items on sale. The store is the main fundraiser for the League’s programs that help children and adults in the community. Virtual Saturday Morning at the Zoo
The nonprofit Wild Wonders animal refuge offers a virtual program, “Saturday Morning at The Zoo,” at 10 a.m. Saturday featuring Wonders from Down Under a continent of “macropods” (marsupials such as kangaroos, wallabies and wallaroos), poisonous toads and laughing birds. The nonprofit Camp Pendleton Historical Society is running an essay contest focused on the base’s history open to undergraduate students enrolled at San Diego County colleges and universities. Essays should delve into the history of the land now known as Camp Pendleton. Essays can be up to 5,000 words and will be judged on historical accuracy, historical interest, organization and presentation. The first-place prize is $1,000; second place, $500.
