North Dakota: Interim committee to study Beef Commission

The commission and its makeup and operations came under scrutiny during the 2021 legislative session when Senator Ertelt, a Republican from Lisbon, filed a bill to make the state Beef Checkoff voluntary. The bill died by a narrow margin in the House, with all House members who identify themselves as ranchers voting in favor of the change to make the state Beef Checkoff voluntary.
The current statute requires that whenever North Dakota cattle change ownership, the seller must remit $1 per head to the state. If the seller chooses to obtain a refund, he or she must request a refund form within 60 days of the sale and then follow the proper refund procedure within 90 days of the sale. This state Checkoff is in addition to the mandatory $1 per head federal Beef Checkoff, of which half is automatically sent to the national Cattlemen’s Beef Board, and half is retained by the North Dakota Beef Commission for promotion, re ....

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Beef Commission is looking for the state’s best beef burger.
Gov. Doug Burgum has proclaimed May 2021 as “Beef Month” in North Dakota, and the beef commission is celebrating with a social media campaign search for the best beef burger. The winner will be announced on National Beef Burger Day, May 28.
Throughout the month of May, the beef commission will celebrate with a variety of activities. Select Cash Wise Foods stores are holding Beef Month promotions. The beef commission, in partnership with the North Dakota CattleWomen, is hosting a virtual 5K run, and consumers can also participate in the North Dakota State University Extension instant pot virtual class to learn new ways to prepare beef. ....

The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) will host its 2021 Spring Roundups, “Charting the Course,” June 3-4 and 7-10 in Hope, Napoleon, Stanley, Watford City, Beulah and Leonard, N.D. The Spring Roundups serve as the organization’s district meetings and will include socials, suppers, informational programs, NDSA Nominating Committee meetings and local brand inspector meetings.
In each location, the brand inspectors meeting begins at 5 p.m., with the social at 5:30 p.m., the supper at 6:30 p.m. and the program and Nominating Committee meeting following. All times are local. ....

North Dakota Beef Commission Celebrates "May is Beef Month" in North Dakota


BISMARCK, N.D. (AgNews 890) – The North Dakota Beef Commission (NDBC) is celebrating “May is Beef Month” in North Dakota, recognizing the beef industry’s vital contribution to the state’s economy and beef’s role in providing essential nutrients to consumers.
North Dakota produces more than 822 million pounds of beef annually and contributes annual cash receipts from beef cattle sales totaling $2.575 billion. Beef Month also recognizes the dedication of North Dakota’s beef producers to raising high-quality, wholesome and nutritious beef that feeds the world.
“Recognizing May as Beef Month is not only important in promoting beef as a product, but it also lets people know how proud the producers are of their product.
