The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has denied calling for a coup in Nigeria, just as the Muslim Right Concern (MURIC) asked him to resign from his position as the secretary of Nigeria’s Peace Committee.
The NATION newspaper reported that Mr Kukah made the denial this while addressing journalists on Tuesday.
Mr Kukah in his 2020 Christmas message titled, ‘A nation in search of vindication’, on Friday, said the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari has shown preferential treatment for a section of the country. ....

Bishop Kukah's critics are hypocrites, agents against genuine issues - Federal lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Teejay Yusuf, has declared that the ongoing criticisms and verbal attacks against Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah were a deliberate attempt to divert from the genuine issues raised in the Bishop’s Christmas message to the country.
The Bishop of Catholic of Sokoto Diocese, Kukah, had in his Christmas message, “A Nation in search of vindication”, said that there was no way any non-Northern Muslim President could have done a fraction of what President Buhari had done by his nepotism and gotten away with it.
The message, however, met stern resistance and condemnation from the government and members of different groups, such as MURIC, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum, Coalition of Northern Groups, among others. ....

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has faulted Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, for accusing Bishop Mathew Kukah of plotting President Muhammadu Buhari’s removal.
The minister had asked religious leaders to “refrain from stoking the embers of hatred and disunity”.
The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese in his Christmas message accused the President of nepotism. He said: “This government owes the nation an explanation as to where it is headed as we seem to journey into darkness.
