The Sri Lankan multinational Haycarb PLC reported revenue of Rs.25.4 billion, profit before tax of Rs. 4.49 billion and profit after tax of Rs. 3.56 billion for the financial year 2020/21. The earnings per share of equity holders of the company was Rs. 10.25 for the year.
The Chairman of Haycarb PLC and its parent company Hayleys PLC, Mr. Mohan Pandithage said that the Company overcame the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and responded positively to opportunities due to the business model founded upon a strategic manufacturing foot print and supply chain network spread across multiple countries, strong customer relationships built on mutual trust and a resilient and committed team of employees, to achieve a record top and bottom line performance. ....

In 1949, a year after Sri Lanka gained independence, a Committee on the Preservation of Wildlife (Sessional paper XIX – 1949) recommended that when development takes place, elephants living in the proposed areas be driven into national reserves and sanctuaries and that temporary corridors be set between these protected areas for the purpose of these drives. Their well-meaning recommendations were based on the knowledge that they had at the time, primarily anecdotal evidence, with little or no comprehensive research available on elephant distribution, ranging patterns and behaviour. At that time, the human population of the country was less than eight million and the supposed wild elephant population was about 1,500. We now know that this latter figure was far from accurate and that that the true figure probably exceeded 10,000. ....

NP Power failure due to Technical Fault: CEB

COLOMBO (News 1st): The power failure experienced in the Northern and North Central Provinces last Monday (Mar. 08), was caused due to a technical fault, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
The cause for the power failure was ascertained following investigations conducted into investigation the power failure that affected the Northern and North-Central provinces the matter with the appointment of a Board of Investigators, Vijitha Herath, the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) told News 1st on Friday (Mar. 12).
The power supply in the Northern and North Central Provinces was disrupted last Monday night (Mar. 08) at around 7:00 pm following a technical issue at the Anuradhapura New Grid Sub-station. ....

COLOMBO (News 1st): The power supply in the Northern and North Central Provinces that was disrupted on Monday night (Mar. 08), has been restored, the Ministry of Power said on Tuesday (Mar. 09).
The supply of power to the entire Northern and North-Central provinces was interrupted at around 7:00 pm on Monday (08), following a technical issue at the Anuradhapura New Grid Sub-station.
Several other areas that receive electricity from the Valachchenai, Habarana, Polonnaruwa, and Vavuniya Grid Sub-Stations too experienced power-cut, Sulakshana Jayawardena, the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Power told News 1st. ....
