City of Richmond considering electric scooter share program

Following city council’s approval last month of a city staff recommendation, the municipal government is now asking the provincial government to add Richmond as the seventh participating local jurisdiction.
A request for proposals for a company to operate a pilot public e-scooter share program in the city was issued earlier in the spring. The procurement process has since concluded, and city staff will report back to city council in September 2021 with recommendations on the successful proponent and next steps.
These devices would only be allowed to run on streets with bike lanes, local streets (a street without dividing lane lines or a directional dividing line with a speed limit of 50 km/hr), and streets with a directional dividing line and a maximum speed of 30 km/hr. ....

Hiker with injured leg rescued with long line by North Shore search crew

VANCOUVER
A hiker was rescued and safely taken to hospital after injuring their leg on a North Shore trail Sunday.
North Shore Rescue posted about the incident to Facebook Sunday evening, saying a helicopter with a long line was used to get the hiker from Cedar Tree Trail, north of Lynn Valley.
Ground teams from NSR and (North Vancouver District) Fire Rescue responded, the search and rescue service said.
Thank you to NVD Fire for accessing the subject and providing first aid, to Talon Helicopters for excellent flying, and to (BC Emergency Health Services) for transferring the patient to hospital. ....

700 shared electric scooters entering Kelowna streets after city approval

Toronto-based Roll Technologies will launch 100 e-scooters today, and grow its fleet to 200 by next week.
In 2019, Roll was one of Kelowna’s participants for a previous limited e-scooter share pilot project on city-owned waterfront property in downtown, with the majority of the trips being recreational trips. Kelowna is the first city that developed an e-scooter pilot project in Canada, and the first city Roll launched its fleet of e-scooters.
The recent changes to the province’s Motor Vehicle Act and the municipal government’s bylaws that enable e-scooters to travel on roads and bike lanes gives this mode the flexibility and room to grow into becoming a more feasible transportation option. ....
