Two weeks after Northside Independent School District Superintendent Brian Woods asked parents to consider temporarily keeping their children in virtual learning amid a local surge in coronavirus cases, the district is extending that request by one week.
“We had hoped to see an improvement in the city’s health metrics and allow students to return Feb. 1. However, we have seen inconsistent metrics,” Woods said in a statement Wednesday. “Because of that, we ask that if you are able and your child is successful in the virtual environment that you delay a return to in-person learning for at least another week.” ....

Superintendent Brian Woods recorded a video urging parents to return their kids to virtual learning for two weeks.Northside ISD
Citing the current surge in COVID-19 cases, Northside Independent School District Superintendent Brian Woods urged parents Wednesday to keep their elementary and middle school kids home and in virtual learning for the next two weeks.
“Hopefully this will get us past the surge in cases we are now seeing in our city,” Woods said in a video posted on the Northside ISD website and social media accounts.
“To be clear, this is a request. It is not mandatory and we are not closing Northside schools,” he added. ....
