SOUTH BEND, Ind. South Bend Venues Parks and Arts announced they will host a ribbon-cutting at Governor Joe Kernan Park at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday to celebrate all the new upgrades and accessibly measures that have been installed.
These new additions to the park have created a universally accessible trail along the upper Riverwalk, two new river outlooks, new signage, upgraded benches, and upgraded trash and recycling receptacles.
“The improvements at this particular park are significant for several reasons. First, the park honors one of the most impactful community members in our city’s history, Governor Joe Kernan, who loved this city and the St. Joseph River. Additionally, this park serves as an important connection along the riverfront trail system in South Bend, and these upgrades make the trail more accessible and navigable than it has ever bee ....

South Bend to mark upgrades to Gov. Joe Kernan Park

SOUTH BEND The city’s Venues Parks & Arts officials will dedicate several upgrades at and near Gov. Joe Kernan Park at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, including the upper riverwalk that extends from Howard Park to the Farmer’s Market, two new outlooks on the St. Joseph River, upgraded benches and lights and new signs.
Much of the work was finished last year. A new public boat launch will be installed at the park later this year.
The park is on Northside Boulevard at South Notre Dame Avenue. For Wednesday’s ribbon cutting, parking at the park will be limited to handicapped only. Attendees are encouraged to park along Frances Street and Northside. Shuttles will also be available from the Zion United Church of Christ lot near Howard Park. ....

BOISE (Idaho Capital Sun) Idaho has overpaid road builders for substandard work. For how long is unclear, but one estimate based on the Idaho Transportation Departmentâs asphalt paving budget suggests it may have overpaid $4.3 million in a single year.
The apparently deficient material remains on Idaho roads. The state has not issued penalties, required contractors to repave the roads or demanded they return bonus payments. The same contractors whose asphalt quality was suspect continue to do the stateâs construction work. ....
