What to expect after getting a COVID-19 vaccine

The news came after six cases of blood clots were reported in those who received the vaccine. At the time the pause was announced, close to seven million people had received the vaccine.
Dr. Brian Weis, the chief medical officer at Northwest Texas Healthcare System, said this serious response for such a small number of cases demonstrates how carefully COVID-19 vaccines are being monitored.
“What an amazing surveillance system we have that we detected six clots out of seven million vaccines. Unbelievable.it makes me feel safer,” said Dr. Weis. “If you look at Moderna and Pfeizer, we’ve seen no concerns out of the same surveillance system.” ....

Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees votes to keep mask mandate until May 17, with exceptions
Nearly four hours from when Wednesday’s special meeting of the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees began, board members voted on a measure that will affect the district’s face-covering policy for some students and staff beginning Monday. 
In a 4-3 vote, the district’s board decided to continue to follow the face-covering guidelines set by the Texas Education Agency with some exceptions. Starting Monday, students in pre-K through fifth grade will not be required to wear masks and the district’s superintendent, Doug Loomis, will have the power to implement further mask breaks including during class transitions, recess and outdoor activities.  ....

City officials confirm presence of COVID-19 variants in Amarillo community
During Wednesday’s COVID-19 news conference, medical professionals said they are encouraged by the recent COVID-19 trends in the community related to the number of active cases and hospitalizations. 
“When we look at these numbers, we can see that our new cases remain low, our active cases remain low, our hospitalizations are clearly low (and) there’s plenty of vaccine available,” said Scott Milton, the city’s public health authority and an associate professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo. 
However, even with the lower case numbers and hospitalizations, the presence of COVID-19 variants in the Texas Panhandle were confirmed during the conference. ....
