Mental health is all around us, but what exactly is mental health? Mental health is a person s general sense of emotional, psychological, and cognitive wellbeing. Everyone has mental health every day, but it s often ignored unless something is going seriously wrong. The best way to prevent that is to pay attention to your mental health even when you feel okay or even good.
“Taking care of ourselves is not selfish. In fact, it is just the opposite. Caring for our mental health helps us to meet our full potential in all areas of our life,” says Shannon Kronlund, Director of Outpatient Services at Northwestern Mental Health Center. “When we care for our own emotional and social health, we increase our resiliency and capacity to help others and ourselves.” ....

    When Crookston Public Library Branch Manager Chris Boike talks about the COVID-19 pandemic’s widespread, devastating impact in 2020, she doesn’t mince words.
   “I mean, it was the worst, right?” she said. “Wouldn’t you agree it was one of the worst years ever?”
   But it’s not impossible to find some silver linings, even in a pandemic that kills millions worldwide and almost 600,000 people, and counting, in the United States. Things like families stuck at home growing closer, and rediscovering nature and the great outdoors and all of the activities outside that they can partake in, even during a pandemic. And, forced to find new, helpful resources in their communities, people turned to places like their local library. ....

Suicidal and psychotic patients spent days waiting in Melbourne emergency department cubicles this week as a shortage of mental health beds was exacerbated by the forced lock down of psychiatric wards at three hospitals.
There were 129 beds temporarily closed to new admissions at The Alfred, the Northern Hospital in Epping and Broadmeadows Hospital because a mental health worker who had worked in all three health services tested positive to COVID-19 and was linked to the Holiday Inn outbreak. ....
