Kroger to close two California stores over COVID pandemic hazard pay

Trader Joe’s has boosted extra pandemic pay for its hourly and non-management employees by $2 an hour at stores nationwide.
Now, those employees will temporarily receive an extra $4 an hour with the Thank You wage in recognition of the outstanding, inspiring work they do every day, in our stores and communities, the grocer said in a blog post.
The increase comes as President Joe Biden calls on employers to provide hazard pay to frontline essential workers as part of his American Rescue Plan. SEATTLE Two grocery groups have filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Seattle over its brand new hazard pay ordinance, which went into effect Wednesday.
The Northwest Grocery Association and the Washington Food Industry Association filed the lawsuit, arguing the ordinance is unconstitutional. KING 5 has contacted the city for comment.
The ordinance states that stores with 500 or more employees in the city must pay frontline grocery workers $4 an hour in hazard pay, on top of their regular salary. ....

The pandemic pay mandate issues keeps escalating, with federal lawsuits being filed against local governments passing such laws.
The California Grocers Association (CGA) says it has filed federal lawsuits against the City of Oakland and City of Montebello both in California to challenge ordinances approved by them mandating an additional $5 per hour in extra pay for a select group of grocery store employees.
Meanwhile, the Northwest Grocery Association (NWGA) and the Washington Food Industry Association (WFIA) have filed a lawsuit against the City of Seattle challenging an ordinance approved by the Seattle City Council that took effect Feb. 3. The ordinance mandates extra pay of $4 per hour for many grocery store employees ....
