The Finance Ministry has granted ‘Infrastructure’ status for exhibition and convention centres, a move that is expected to ease bank financing for such projects.
‘Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre is included in the Harmonised Master List of Infrastructure sub-sectors by insertion of a new item in the category of Social and Commercial Infrastructure,’ the Department of Economic Affairs said in a notification.
However, the benefits available as ‘infrastructure’ projects would only be available for projects with a minimum built-up floor area of 1,00,000 square metres of exclusive exhibition space or convention space or both combined. This includes primary facilities such as exhibition centres, convention halls, auditoriums, plenary halls, business centres ....

Landlords may soon have to pass on Mackay dump vouchers to their tenants following a review into the scheme.
It comes after Mackay Regional Councillor Martin Bella lashed out at illegal dumpers and those complaining about costs to use the regionâs waste facilities.
âIllegal dumping drives me beyond the brink as it generally tends to occur in farmland or our environmental reserves,â Cr Bella said.
He said there was no excuse for it, citing a review he conducted a few years ago with Councillor Laurence Bonaventura into waste disposal fees.
âThe cost to dump the average load (at Mackay waste facilities) is way under the cost of dealing with that waste,â Cr Bella said. ....
