Planned memory care center in Bridgton, slowed by rising construction costs, will break ground soon

Woodlands Senior Living LLC will break ground within weeks on a new memory care facility in Bridgton despite higher than originally expected costs and a difficult labor market.
Pending a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection, Woodlands plans to start construction in September at the latest with completion scheduled for the fall of 2022. The Bridgton Planning Board met in July and offered tentative approval for the facility, which will be a 48-bed center for people living with Alzheimer’s and related memory impairments.
“We’re committed to being in Bridgton despite significantly higher than anticipated costs. Project costs have gone up 25% in the past six to eight months, but that’s not going to keep us from doing this,” Matthew Walters, managing member of Woodlands Senior Living, told Mainebiz. ....

BRIDGTON Woodlands Senior Living has received approval for a new memory care facility on North High Street in Bridgton and moving ahead with plans for construction.
The Bridgton Planning Board met earlier in July and offered tentative approval for the facility, which will be a 48-bed facility for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related memory impairments.
Woodlands, a Maine-based, family-owned and operated organization operates 15 facilities in nine locations statewide. The Bridgton site will be a 24,000-square-foot building featuring feature the latest developments for memory care, including abundant natural light, home-scaled areas for resident engagement and safety systems. It will be Woodlands’ second location in Cumberland County, and is expected to include on-site amenities such as a beauty salon, a physical and occupational therapy center, and a large outside courtyard. ....

VASSALBORO – My husband, best friend, and love of my life, John R. DeMerchant, 81, passed peacefully on July 25, 2021, at Woodlands Senior Living facility in Waterville, after a lengthy illness.John was born on Nov. 3, 1939, in Ft. Fairfield, Maine, the son of Ralph and Lillian DeMerchant. He attended local schools, and during high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving two years in the Reserves. Following graduation from Cony High School, he proudly served four more years of active duty in the Marine Corps.During his lifetime, he was employed by Augusta Supply Co., Sears Roebuck Co. and retired from Shaw’s Supermarkets.John was a member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion and Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially enjoy ....
