Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust held AGM in Winchester Cathedral.
It was announced that the charity s popular Ride&Stride was a huge success, despite the pandemic.
Chairman Lady Joan Appleyard explained: “Families like the variety and outdoor exercise and choice of transport. Instead of just walking or cycling we see people using canoes, motability scooters, motorbikes or vintage cars.
People love to discover inside churches, learn the history from church guides and bump into other Ride and Striders, it’s always fun.”
Last time the three most active fundraising churches were All Saints, Odiham; St. Peter and St. Paul, King Somborne and St Peter s, Stockbridge. ....

Mayfield Girls School: Nun buried in 1879 could be dug up


Parts of the body of Venerable Mother Cornelia Connelly could be moved from Sussex to Philadelphia
HUNDREDS of Catholics have protested in outrage at plans to dig up the founder of one of Britain s top private Catholic schools so part of her body can be moved to America.
The Venerable Mother Cornelia Connelly, who died in 1879, was interned beneath the walls of a chapel at Mayfield Girls School in West Sussex - which she founded in 1872.
The nun, who is being considered for sainthood, was also the founder of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, which now wants part of her body removed so it can be kept in the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia - the city where she was born in 1809. ....
