Some property owners say they are finding it difficult to rent to Welcome Stampers based on certain requirements.
Recently, chief executive officer of Remote Work Barbados Inc., Peter Thompson, said while there were 1 900 successful Welcome Stamp visa applicants, to date only about a third of that number had arrived in Barbados.
He noted that the island’s inventory of about 2 600 rental properties was inadequate to meet the demand.
Realtor Dexter Yarde, of Own Piece of the Rock Realty, told the Sunday Sun that based on what he was seeing, sometimes Welcome Stampers’ budgets did not meet the requirements. (RA) ....

We relocated to our favourite holiday destination – and never looked back

When the pandemic hit, we moved to our dream holiday destination – and never looked back
Barbados, Portugal and Tenerife are among the countries where Britons have found respite from our lengthy lockdown
Katie Holmes and her partner, Carl, relocated to Barbados in 2020
Would you choose a third lockdown: four months of winter, with no family Christmas, pubs roasts or friendly gatherings to lift the gloom? Or, a fresh start, preferably somewhere sunny, where the cost of living matches up with the quality of life – perhaps a lusted-after holiday destination?
In 2020, lockdowns and at turns confusing (a roundabout of Tiers) and harsh (families separated from those in care homes) restrictions left many Britons with a wandering eye for less doom-laden nations. ....

PM says two-week shutdown in COVID control bid

For the second time in nine months Barbados is going into lockdown.
Similiar to the 24-hour curfew imposed in April last year, Prime Minister Mia Mottley tonight outlined several restrictions that would take effect from February 3, which are aimed at negating the threat of COVID-19 and bringing community spread of the viral illness under control.
During an hour-long nationally-televised press briefing from Ilaro Court, Mottley also announced tighter protocols for visitors to the island, including a longer quarantine period.
She said the new measures were Government’s way of “launching war” against COVID-19.
Mottley disclosed that effective February 3, the current 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew would be extended to a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. lockdown and that all businesses excluding supermarkets, pharmacies, gas stations, doctors and those deemed essential services would remain closed during that period. ....

After working and learning remotely for months, Christine Whitlock, the head of HR for a Virginia consulting company, and her family moved to Barbados as part of its Welcome Stamp program.
The new visa for remote workers costs $2,000 and allows you to spend a year on the Caribbean island. The program is a much needed push for the economy since the country suffered from a big drop off in tourism.
Once they were accepted, Whitlock and her family had to figure out several logistics, including convincing their employers to let them work from an island, working out school plans, finding a place to live, and keeping up with COVID-19 guidelines.  ....
